Malmsbury Festival - Annual Music and Arts Festival
It started in 2008 with a Street Party organised to celebrate the changes that came with the opening of the bypass. In April that year Malmsbury was bypassed with the new Calder Fwy extension. This meant that the traffic traditionally from Melbourne to Bendigo would no longer need to pass through the town of Malmsbury. The trucks, vans, cars, motorbikes and campers would all pass through Malmsbury on their way North, and stop for pies, coffee, drinks and to stretch legs. So the opening of the bypass meant big changes for Malmsbury.
The Malmsbury Street Party 2008, involved the entire community in a wonderful day that involved a parade down the old Calder Hwy, coach rides, live music, competitions, food and drinks and a lot of fun.
In 20009 the Festival continued but due to heavy rain and strong winds, we were forced to cram into the Town Hall. A packed hall enjoyed music by Dram, Sile Coleman, Jali B Kuyateh and Geoff Achison-what a day!
Now in 2010 the Festival continues, maybe it will be sunny.
